Who we are

The Design Cell Inc. is a design and development studio based in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. This policy covers the website at thedesigncell.com.

This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

Information you give us

When you submit our contact form, we collect your name, email address, company name, the type of business you selected, and whatever you write in your message. We collect this because you chose to send it to us.

If you email or call us directly, we keep that correspondence so we can respond and maintain a record of the conversation.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our server logs record your IP address, browser type, operating system, the pages you visit, and the time of your visit. We also use analytics tools that collect similar information. See the cookies section below.

How we use it

We use the information you send us to reply to your enquiry, to prepare proposals or scopes of work, and to keep a record of our correspondence.

We use automatically collected information to understand how people find and use the site, to fix problems, and to keep the site secure.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not send marketing email unless you have specifically asked us to.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We use them in two ways.

Necessary cookies keep the site working. These include a cookie that records your cookie preferences so we do not ask you again on every visit.

Analytics cookies help us understand how the site is used. We use Google Analytics, which collects information about your visit in aggregate. Google’s privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

You can manage your cookie preferences at any time through the cookie settings on this site, or by clearing and blocking cookies in your browser. Blocking analytics cookies will not affect how the site works for you.

Embedded content

Some pages may include content embedded from other websites, such as videos or maps. Embedded content behaves as though you had visited that other website directly, which means those sites may collect data about you, set their own cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content. We do not control what those sites collect.

Who we share data with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us operate this website and our business. These currently include:

  • Our web hosting provider, which stores the site and its database
  • Our email delivery provider, which sends and receives our correspondence
  • Google Analytics, for website usage statistics

These providers may store data outside Canada, including in the United States. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so.

How long we keep it

Contact form submissions are retained for [SPECIFY PERIOD, e.g. two years] after our last contact with you, unless our working relationship requires us to keep them longer.

Server logs are retained for [SPECIFY PERIOD, e.g. 30 days].

Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics settings, currently [SPECIFY PERIOD].

Correspondence relating to active or past client work is retained for as long as we have a business reason to keep it, and afterwards for the period required by our record-keeping and tax obligations.

Data we handle for clients

Much of our work involves building websites, contests, promotions and learning platforms for other organizations. Where we process personal information on behalf of a client, we do so as a service provider under that client’s direction and under the terms of our agreement with them.

If you entered a contest, registered for a platform, or submitted information through something we built, the organization running that promotion is responsible for your data, not us. Their privacy policy governs how your information is used. If you are not sure who to contact, get in touch with us and we will point you in the right direction.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law, and depending on where you live, other applicable laws, you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Request a copy of that information
  • Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
  • Ask us to delete information we no longer have a reason to keep
  • Withdraw your consent to our use of your information

To make a request, email us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and there is some information we are required to retain for legal, accounting or security reasons.

Security

We use industry standard measures to protect the information we hold, including encrypted connections, access controls, and regular updates to the software running this site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take the responsibility seriously.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If we make a significant change to how we handle your information, we will make that clear.
